In the present study, we examined the anti-proliferative effects of Tet on lung cancer A549 cells in vitro. The results indicated that Tet suppressed the proliferation of A549 cells in a concentration-dependent manner with IC50 of 20.71 microM. These results demonstrated that Tet could be a potential anti-tumor agent for lung cancer. Molecular mechanisms underlying the anti-proliferative effects of Tet were also investigated. Flow cytometry indicated that Tet decreased G0/G1 phase population in A549 cells, and this occurred in a dose-dependent manner. This study was carried out to clarify the relationship between the movement of the laryngeal isthmus (LI) and the hyperkinetic aryepiglottic fold (AHF) in laryngeal ventricular dilatation (LVD). Two dimensional (2D) translaryngeal videofluoroscopic images of the upper respiratory tract were taken in 16 patients with LVD (8 patients with parapharyngeal space abscess, 6 patients with parapharyngeal abscess extending to the hypopharynx and 2 patients with pharyngitis). In 8 of the 16 patients, the movement of LI was markedly different from that of the AHF. The AHF was closed during inspiratory phase, and opened during expiratory phase in all 8 patients. In contrast, LI was opened during inspiratory phase, and closed during expiratory phase in 4 of the 8 patients. In the remaining 4 patients, the movements of LI and AHF were similar. The present study demonstrated that the movement of LI was markedly different from that of the AHF in 8 of the 16 patients with LVD.Biological effects
